Astro Mate (“we,” “us,” “our,” or “the Service”) is operated by Stefan Djokic (SDEE3) as a personal project. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, where it is stored, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using any feature of Astro Mate, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information — your email address, display name, and (optionally) a profile image. These are managed by our authentication provider, Clerk (see Section 4).
- Birth data — your birth date, birth time, time zone, and birthplace (city, country, and geographic coordinates). This is required to calculate your natal chart and is the core data the Service uses.
- Profile details — your display name, gender (man, woman, nonbinary, or prefer-not-to-say), current residence (city, country, and coordinates), and a public visibility toggle.
- Dating preferences — a free-text bio, who you are looking for (men, women, or everyone), an age range, and privacy toggles controlling whether your birth time and location are shown to other users.
- User-generated content — dating messages you send, emoji reactions you leave, and reports you submit about other users.
- Information you provide about other people — the Service lets you create a “custom chart” for a person who is not registered on Astro Mate (for example, to compare synastry with a partner). You may enter their name, birth date, birth time, and birthplace. You should only enter another person’s birth data with their consent. We do not contact those individuals and they cannot see the chart you created about them.
1.2 Information derived from your use
- Astrology outputs — your Sun, Moon, Ascendant and full planetary positions, and synastry (compatibility) scores between charts. These are computed from your birth data and cached on our backend for performance.
- Dating activity — your “like”/“pass” decisions on other users, the matches that result, and the messages exchanged in those conversations (including a short preview of your most recent message, used to display conversation lists).
- Read receipts — the last time you opened a conversation, used to show your match whether you have read their latest message.
- Blocks and reports — the users you have blocked and the reports you have filed.
1.3 Information collected automatically
- Authentication session data — Clerk sets a session cookie in your browser so you stay signed in.
- Website usage statistics — we count at most one public visit and one signed-in visit per browser per UTC day to understand how the Service is used. We store a random session key in your browser's sessionStorage and may look up your approximate country and city from your IP address (via ipapi.co) when recording that count. These statistics are first-party operational data stored in our application database; they are separate from Google's optional measurement cookies and are not used for advertising.
- Website marketing measurement — when you use the Astro Mate website, we load Google’s tag (gtag.js) from Google to measure visits and conversions from our Google Ads campaigns. Google may set cookies or similar technologies, collect your IP address, browser and device data, pages you view, and referral information, and associate that activity with ad clicks. We do not receive this measurement data directly. See Section 6.
- Meta and TikTok measurement — with your permission, we load Meta's Pixel (Meta Platforms, Inc.) and TikTok's Pixel (TikTok Technology Ltd.) to measure visits and conversions from our Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok ad campaigns. They may collect your IP address, browser and device data, and pages you view, and we may send them server-side purchase events (order value, currency, and a SHA-256-hashed account identifier) and a one-time first-credit-spend event. When you are signed in, a hashed account identifier — and, for TikTok, your hashed email address — may be shared with these platforms. These tags load only after you grant the advertising choice. See Section 6.3.
- Advertising identifiers (mobile app only) — beginning September 1, 2026, when the mobile app displays ads, Google AdMob collects your advertising identifier (Apple IDFA or Android Advertising ID), IP address, device and app data, and your interactions with the ads to serve, personalize, and measure them. We never receive this ad data ourselves. See Section 6.
- Anti-abuse counters — we keep rate-limit counters (such as “number of actions by a key in the last window”) to prevent automated abuse. These counters do not contain message content.
- Audit logs — security-relevant actions (for example, moderator actions taken on your account) are recorded with the acting user id, target user id, action type, and a timestamp, and may include a small metadata record. These logs are retained for the life of the relevant accounts for abuse prevention and security.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To calculate and display your natal chart and synastry results.
- To match you with other users in the dating feature, including applying your preferences and showing your profile to others only when you have made it public and enabled dating.
- To deliver real-time messaging between matched users.
- To email you a reminder when a new match has sent you a message that you have not yet seen or replied to. You can turn these reminder emails off at any time from Profile → Notifications.
- To moderate content and enforce our acceptable-use rules, including keeping a short snippet of flagged content and the reporter’s notes for review by our moderators.
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and automated attacks.
- To maintain the Service (debugging, backups, and reliability).
- To measure the effectiveness of our advertising on the website using Google’s tag (Google Ads conversion tracking; see Section 6).
- To display advertising in the mobile app, served by Google AdMob, beginning September 1, 2026 (see Section 6).
- To respond to your requests, including in-app data export and account-deletion flows.
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with Google for advertising and marketing measurement as described in Section 6 — Google’s tag on the website (now), and Google AdMob in the mobile app beginning September 1, 2026. We do not share your information with any other third parties for their own advertising or commercial purposes.
3. Where Your Information Is Stored
Your data is stored in two places:
- Convex (Convex, Inc.) hosts the application database, our function runtime, and ephemeris reference files. All profile, chart, dating, messaging, moderation, and audit data described in Section 1 lives in Convex.
- Clerk (Clerk Inc.) hosts your authentication identity — email address, password hash (Clerk never shares the plain password with us), OAuth provider identity when you sign in with Google, and your Clerk-hosted profile image. We mirror only your Clerk profile image URL into our database so we can display it; the image bytes remain hosted by Clerk.
Authentication is routed through the SDEE3 Identity hub (identity.sdee3.com) using ticket-based single sign-on. The hub does not retain a long-term copy of your profile data; it brokers the sign-in and returns the session to Astro Mate.
4. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Clerk sets authentication session cookies so you stay signed in. These are strictly necessary to operate your account and are not controlled by the cookie consent banner.
Optional cookies. With your permission, Google's tag (gtag.js), Meta's Pixel, and TikTok's Pixel may set advertising or analytics cookies to measure our ad campaigns on Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), and TikTok. The Meta and TikTok tags load only after you grant the advertising choice. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, we ask for your consent before enabling those optional cookies. Our cookie consent banner lets you accept all, reject optional cookies, or manage preferences for “Advertising and measurement.” You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the website footer (available on the home page, signed-in app footer, legal pages, marketing pages, and sign-in flows). Your choice is stored in your browser (localStorage) and communicated to Google via Consent Mode so their tag respects your preferences on later visits; the Meta and TikTok tags load only when your choice grants advertising consent. You can also clear cookies in your browser at any time; clearing Clerk's cookies will require you to sign in again.
5. Data Sharing
We share your information only in these limited circumstances:
- With our service providers (Clerk, Convex, and Google — Google Ads measurement on the website and AdMob in the mobile app; and Meta Platforms and TikTok — website ad measurement via their Pixels and server-side conversion APIs) as described in Sections 3 and 6, each under their own privacy and data-processing terms.
- With other users, only as needed to operate the feature you are using: your public dating profile (when you enable it), your messages and reactions to your matches.
- When required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the Service.
6. Advertising and Marketing Measurement
6.1 Website (Google Ads measurement)
The Astro Mate website does not display ads. We use Google’s tag (gtag.js), loaded from Google, to measure visits and conversions from our Google Ads campaigns. When you load pages on the website, Google may collect your IP address, browser and device data, pages viewed, and referral or campaign information, and may set cookies or similar technologies. We do not receive this measurement data ourselves. Google’s processing is governed by its Privacy Policy and Terms.
Where required by law (EEA, UK, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway), we only enable Google's optional measurement cookies after you consent through our cookie banner. Outside those regions, the tag may run by default; you can still opt out at any time via Cookie settings in the website footer.
6.2 Mobile app (Google AdMob)
The Astro Mate mobile app does not currently display ads. Beginning September 1, 2026, the mobile app will display ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC) — a banner ad on the Dashboard and an interstitial when you open Dating Discover.
- What Google receives. When ads are displayed, Google may collect your advertising identifier (Apple IDFA or Android Advertising ID), IP address, device and app data, and your interactions with the ads, to serve, personalize, and measure them. We do not receive this ad data ourselves.
- Consent and choices. Where required by law (EEA, UK, and Switzerland), we will ask for your consent before showing ads, and you can change your choices or withdraw consent at any time from the in-app ad privacy options. On iOS, you are asked whether we can track you across apps and websites; if you decline, ads will not be personalized. California residents can also opt out of the sharing of their personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in the same in-app privacy options.
6.3 Meta and TikTok measurement (website)
We measure visits, sign-ups, purchases, and product usage from our Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok ad campaigns using the Meta Pixel and TikTok Pixel, loaded from Meta Platforms, Inc. and TikTok Technology Ltd. When you load pages on the website, these tags may collect your IP address, browser and device data, pages viewed, and referral or campaign information, and may set cookies or similar technologies. We do not sell this measurement data. Meta's and TikTok's processing is governed by their own privacy policies.
Some events are also sent server-side to Meta (via its Conversions API) and TikTok (via its Events API): purchase events (order value, currency, and a SHA-256-hashed account identifier) and a one-time first-credit-spend event (feature name and credit amount). When you are signed in and have consented to advertising cookies, a SHA-256-hashed account identifier — and, for TikTok, your hashed email address — may also be shared from your browser so these platforms can recognize you across browser sessions. Where required by law (EEA, UK, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway), the browser tags load only after you consent through our cookie banner; you can change your choice at any time via Cookie settings in the website footer.
6.4 Your choices
Website. Use Cookie settings in the site footer to accept, reject, or change optional advertising and measurement cookies at any time. You can also block or clear cookies in your browser settings; note that blocking Google's tag does not affect Clerk session cookies required to stay signed in.
Google ad personalization. You can manage Google's use of your data for personalized ads at Google Ad Settings.
Mobile app. You can limit personalized advertising or reset your advertising identifier in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads).
7. Your Privacy Choices
- Cookie settings. On the website, open Cookie settings from the footer to change optional advertising and measurement cookies.
- Profile visibility. Your natal chart and dating profile are only shown to others when you set your profile to public and (for the dating feature) enable dating in your preferences.
- Birth time and location toggles. Your dating preferences include separate toggles for “show birth time” and “show location,” which control what appears on your public dating profile.
- Sign out. You can sign out at any time from the account menu. Session cookies remain until you sign out or clear them.
8. Data Retention
- We retain your profile, birth data, dating data, messages, and user-generated content for as long as your account is active.
- Computed caches (your natal chart and any synastry results) are kept until you delete your account so the Service does not need to recompute them on every visit.
- Moderation records (flagged content snippets, reports, ban records) and audit logs are retained for the life of the relevant accounts to support abuse prevention and security.
- Messages support soft-delete; a deleted message is hidden from view but may remain recoverable in our backups for a limited period.
- After you delete your account as described in Section 9, your data is removed from our active Convex database; residual copies may persist in our backups for up to 60 days before being overwritten or purged.
9. Access, Export, and Deletion
You have the right to access, export, and delete the personal data we hold about you. When we update this Privacy Policy, we may ask you to review the changes in the app and record whether you accept or decline the new version. Your decision is stored with the document version so we can show future updates and apply any feature limits that version describes.
- Export. You can download a machine-readable JSON export of your profile, dating preferences, charts, swipes, matches, conversations, messages, reactions, and legal-consent history from Profile → Export data.
- Deletion. You can permanently delete your account and the personal data associated with it from Profile → Delete account. This removes your Astro Mate data from our active database and triggers deletion of your Clerk sign-in identity. We aim to complete account deletion within 30 days.
- Withdrawal of consent for third-party data. If you entered a custom chart for another person and later want it removed, email privacy@sdee3.com and we will delete that custom chart.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to anyone under 18. Because Astro Mate includes a dating feature, you must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use any feature of the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a person under 18, please email privacy@sdee3.com and we will delete it.
11. International Users
Astro Mate is available globally. If you access the Service from outside the operator’s country of residence, your information will be processed by Convex and Clerk in the regions they operate, and you acknowledge that transfers may be subject to the laws of those regions.
12. Your Rights Under GDPR (European Economic Area and UK)
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Access — receive a copy of your personal data.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — request deletion as described in Section 9.
- Restriction — limit our processing in certain circumstances.
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format via Profile → Export data.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, including consent you gave us to process another person’s data.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@sdee3.com. We will respond within one month, in line with GDPR. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your local data-protection authority.
13. Your Rights Under CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and its regulations:
- Know — request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect.
- Delete — request deletion as described in Section 9.
- Correct — correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of sale and sharing — we do not sell personal information. Sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising occurs through Google’s tag on the website (Section 6.1) and, beginning September 1, 2026, ad serving in the mobile app (Section 6.2). You can opt out of personalized ads at Google Ad Settings and, for the mobile app, from the in-app ad privacy options.
- Limit use of sensitive personal information — the sensitive data we process (birth data) is used to provide the Service you requested; you may limit it by deleting your account.
- Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
To exercise these rights, email privacy@sdee3.com.
14. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data: authentication is enforced on every protected function via Clerk-issued JWT validated by Convex, password hashes are held by Clerk (never by us), access to other users’ data is scoped to the relationships you have (such as matched conversations), and we run anti-abuse rate limiting. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you in the Service. Your continued use of Astro Mate after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
16. Contact
